Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader Dr. Kizza Besigye and activist Samuel Lubega Mukaaku are expected to appear in court on Friday for further hearing in the incitement to violence case against them.

On February 11, 2025, Besigye declined to appear in court, citing indisposition. In a letter submitted by the officer in charge of Upper Prisons, where Besigye is currently being held, the magistrate was informed of his inability to attend.

This prompted trial magistrate Winnie Nankya to issue a production warrant, directing prison authorities to present Besigye on February 14, 2025, to determine the reasons for his non-appearance.

Besigye and Mukaaku are facing charges for allegedly inciting violence during the June 2022 Kampala protests against high commodity prices.

According to the prosecution, Besigye and Mukaaku used a loudspeaker to urge people to overthrow the government, an act deemed as incitement to violence.
