Former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has been summoned to the Anti-Corruption on charges related to expenditures for the 2007 Common Wealth Heads of Government meeting.

Bukenya who was the chair of the cabinet sub-committee on CHOGM faces alleged charges of abuse of office.

He has also been jointly sued with Motor Care Uganda Limited on alleged charges of fraudulent practice.

His troubles arise from the procurement of vehicles which were used during the meeting in which government is said to have lost 6 billion Shillings.

Bukenya is accused of ordering direct procurement of BMW cars from Motor Care Uganda Limited in an alleged hijack of the procurement process by stopping international bidding.

According to the charge sheet that is before the Anti-Corruption Corrupt, Prof. Bukenya is now accused of highhandedness that was against the interests of the government.

Bukenya has however insisted over time that the decision to make the said procurement was made by the committee and not him as an individual.

Grade one magistrate Sarah Langa has now summoned Bukenya to appear before the Court on 15th June.

Bukenya was recently dropped from the position of Vice President and is still battling in Court for the Busiro North Parliamentary seat.
