China Communications Construction Company, the contractor of the Kampala- Entebbe express, plans to handover the first phase of the 51.4km road to the Uganda National Roads Authority next month.

During a guided tour of the work done so far, the roads authority board chairperson Fred Omach revealed that China Communications Construction Company will first hand the section from Busega to Mpala, along the old Entebbe road measuring about 41km.

The stretch from Impala to Entebbe town en route to the airport, measuring bout 12km, has been mostly delayed by compensation issues involving family disputes and ownership of land.

The biggest setback, as experienced on all other road projects, is the burdensome acquisition of the proposed right of way and compensations.

Unra records show over 4,500 Project Affected Persons evaluated for compensation. Of these,3,100 have been cleared

Construction of the four-lane toll expressway commenced in November 2012 with a completion date of 2017 but has since been deferred to May 2018, according to the project implementer—Unra as a result of countless unresolved land grievances that have delayed works on some sections.
