The Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera has warned that any breach of the law in the forthcoming general election on January 14th, 2021 shall lead to a nullification.

Speaking at a Uganda Law society symposium on election practices, Justice Buteera says elections must be conducted in accordance with the law which must be respected.

He has also called for observance of human rights by all relevant authorities insisting that there is life after elections.

Justice Buteera has meanwhile launched the society Elections Petition Law Report Volume one which complies petitions from 2001 to 2011 with a reminder that the Judiciary is necessary before, during and after Elections.

Uganda is currently experiencing significant human rights abuses by the army, police, and other government institutions.

Those abuses include extrajudicial killings, illegal detentions, torture directed towards opposition leaders and members, activists, Human Rights Lawyers, and journalists, among others.
