The Uganda National NGO Forum has launched a 5-year self-sustainability programme for NGOs to overcome the challenges caused by foreign funding.

Launching the programme dubbed “Philanthropy for Development”, the forum’s executive director Moses Isooba said its goal is to redefine and give ownership of development to the people by harnessing the power of domestic mobilization.

He adds that for a long time, development in the country has been from foreigners and yet Ugandans themselves have the resources including; space, time, expertise and knowledge to trigger development from the grassroots level.

According to Isooba, Ugandans and Africans at large are known to be givers and is as such optimistic that the programme that will be steered by communities in 14 regions of Uganda will yield fruit.

The programme is being supported by the Dutch Ministry of foreign affairs through the Giving for Change Alliance.
