The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has expressed concern over the deteriorating health of its founding president, Dr. Kizza Besigye, while he is in prison. The party is demanding his immediate release so he can receive proper medical attention.

KFM understands that Besigye was taken to a private clinic in Bugoloobi on Sunday under heavy security.

FDC Deputy Publicity Secretary Lubega Warid told media at the party’s headquarters on Monday that it is unacceptable to keep Besigye in prison following the Supreme Court ruling that outlawed the trial of civilians in military courts.

“Healthcare is a human right that everyone should access it without limitation of any kind. We believe as FDC that Dr Besigye is entitled to the highest standard of healthcare available both in Uganda and abroad,” Lubega said.

Lubega warned that the recent death of former Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya, who was allegedly denied timely medical care, should serve as a reminder of the potential consequences of government actions.
