The head of the FDC women’s league Ingrid Turinawe has been placed under preventive arrest.

The police was deployed at her home along Gayaza Road, this morning and is sorrounding the home.

The police spokesperson Asuman Mugenyi has confirmed that she is under house arrest.

Mugenyi says the police received information that Turinawe was mobilising youths to cause chaos in the city through resumption of the Walk to Work protests.

He adds that the Turinawe-led youths were meant to gather at Clock Tower and other places in the city to spark fresh protests.

The police say they will not allow chaos in the city as traders resume work after their strike that saw shops closed for 4days.

Asumani Mugenyi says the deployment at Turinawe’s home and other places in the city will be maintained for as long as such plans persist.

Turinawe was recently released by court on bail but faces charges of treason.

She is alleged to have coordinated a campaign to launch persistent riots, meant to overthrow the government.
