The Female Lawyers Network has asked parliament to put a provision in the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill 2023 on posthumous reproduction which allows spouses to use gametes of their dead spouses for reproduction.
The call was made by the Chief Executive Officer of the Network Leah Nasasira Tumwesigye while interacting with parliament’s health committee on the bill that was sponsored by Tororo district woman MP Sarah Opendi.
Nasasira has informed the committee that posthumous reproduction arises in instances where a party has donated his or her gametes before their death and a recipient would like to use them thereafter.
“this might occur in instances where a spouse has stored the garments for future use but dies before intended processes is completed , so in such an instances the individuals concerned are presumably have right tp reproduce,”Nasasira said.
