The UNRA commission of inquiry has heard that the construction duration for the Kawempe-Kiryadongo road was reduced from 10 to seven years but the entire cost was tripled.

The commission probing alleged corruption at the Uganda National Roads Authority was today questioning the former UNRA boss Ssebugga Kimeze.

The commission has learnt that although the road was simply being rehabilitated at a cost of Shs51bn, it cost 165 billion-an amount that is enough to construct a new road.

In his defence, the visibly shocked Kimeze said he needed more time to consult his technical team on the matter.

Commission chair Justice Catherine Bamugereire also questioned Kimeze on why some sections of the road are narrow, to which he said they did not have enough resources to expand it.
