Masaka Diocese Bishop Severus Jjumba has asked Christians to stay strong amid the numerous challenges, especially those resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

While leading prayers at the Catholic Martyrs’ Shrine in Namugongo, he said the people of God need to intercede through the Uganda Martyrs.

This year’s Martyrs’ Day celebrations have been led by Masaka Diocese under the theme; ‘Don’t lose heart’.

Meanwhile, the Pope’s representative in Uganda has prayed for the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic and asked Christians to continuously pray for not just Uganda but the entire world to recover from the devastation caused by the virus.

Speaking during the mass to celebrate the Uganda Martyrs in Namugongo, the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Bianco Luigi said many people have died, asking God to heal the sick and help end this suffering.

This was the second time the Martyrs’ Day celebrations were held without pilgrims due to the pandemic.

Only 200 invited celebrants attended the event.
