The minister for the Presidency Kabakumba Matsiko has resigned.

She has made the announcement while addressing the media at parliament this afternoon.

Her resignation follows numerous calls for her to step aside and allow invesigations into allegations that she illegally used UBC equipment at her private Masindi-based FM station.

Flanked by her husband Col Henry Matsiko, some NRM MPs and supporters, Kabakumba told journalists that she has made the decision after consultation with her family and supporters for the good of the country.

She however maintains her innocence and says that the investigations will fill find evidence against her.

Who is Kabakumba?

Princess Kabakumba Labwoni Masiko was born on 20th October 1966 in Masindi district.

She holds a bachelors degree of science from Makerere University and 3diplomas including a diploma in legislative drafting and post graduate diploma in Public Administration and Management.

She worked as an NRM Party functionary from 1986 to 1996.

In 1996 she contested for the position of the Masindi District MP, which she held until 2001.

In 2001, she contested as Bujenje county MP and has since represented the said constituency in Parliament.

Kabakumba was appointed Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Government chief whip in 2006, a position she held until 2009 when she was elected minister of information and national guidance.

She was re-designated minister for the Presidency in May this year, a position from which she has resigned.
