The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, has urged the African Member states sharing the River Nile to strengthen their ties, to ensure effective sharing and management of the water resource.

Speaking at the closure of the 3-day 7th Nile Basin Development Forum, which was held at Munyonyo in Kampala, Kadaga said the conversations that delegates have had in the past days set a firm ground to start a journey of intensified collaborations for the best interests of the member states.

“You have reaffirmed that the future of the Nile basin is not just at the hearts of one nation but a collective commitment of these stakeholders. This reminds us of the necessity for cooperation as an inclusive and comprehensive approach,” Kadaga said on Tuesday.

The 7th Nile Basin Development Forum was held under the theme; “Deepening Nile co-operation: Accelerating the achievement of SDGs in a changing climate,” in Kampala yesterday.

It attracted delegates from Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, and South Sudan, to deliberate on cooperation in line with the shared resource, the Nile, as well as achievements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the constantly changing climate.
