A Kampala Capital City Authority meeting called by the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago this morning has flopped after councilors from the ruling NRM stormed out.

The meeting was called following the weekend incident, in which KCCA officials shot at a crowd in Luzira, killing at least one person.

The meeting was disrupted after a letter was presented from Kampala Resident City Commissioner Alice Muwanguzi, saying the matter could not be discussed since it was still being investigated.

The councilors subscribing to the NRM led by Bruhan Byaruhanga argued that the letter should be respected, while those from the opposition said the council could discuss other issues other than the events of the fateful day.

The opposition councilors cited the need for information from the Executive Director Jennipher Misisi on reports that the director of physical planning George Agaba has been interdicted

About 20 councilors from the NRM stormed out of the council meeting with the Lord Mayor left with no choice but to adjourn the meeting due to lack of adequate quorum.

The Lord mayor Erias Lukwago has accused the RCC of interfering with the affairs of KCCA, which is an independent body.

Lukwago says the meeting was meant to discuss the fate of physical planning in the city in the absence of its director and not the matters under investigation.
