At least 1000 theft cases have been registered in Lango sub-region in a period of three months, according to police.

Out of the 1,030 cases, 340 were registered in June, 385 in July, and 305 in August. Such theft cases involve house break-ins, theft of motorcycles and motor vehicles, and robberies among others.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson attributes the rise in theft cases in the region especially in Lira city to the presence of ‘street goons’.

He urged the members of the public to always be security vigilant by not only leaving the security work to police.

On October 9, 2022, police at Lira central police station arrested three men on allegations of being in possession of suspected stolen items like solar panels, three TV sets, speakers, and window frames among other items.

The accused have been identified as Steven Onyek, Denis Obote, and one only identified as Ouni.

Patrick Ojok, the LC1 chairperson of Wigweng cell, Barogole ward in Lira city West division says his office recorded four cases of house break-ins before the Independence Day celebrations.
