Lightning injures 13 in Alebtong

Thirteen more people have sustained injuries after lightning struck a police radio communication antenna at Omoro Sub county headquarters, Alebtong district.

Most of the victims were farmers who had turned up at the Sub county Headquarters for a NAADS meeting.

The LC3 Chairman Omoro sub county Robert Okullu says they had sought shelter near a building whose rooftop was struck during a heavy down pour.

He says the victims sustained varying degrees of burns and were rushed to Omoro Health Centre for treatment.

This is the second time lighting has struck the district in just three days.

Atleast three people were struck dead by lightning on Saturday, while 15 others escaped with injuries and were taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

While on Sunday, five journalists including a Daily Monitor reporter Moses Akena survived death when lightning struck and slightly burnt a radio they were in in Gulu town.

Other cases were last week reported in the districts of Jinja, Kaliro, Mayuge, Namayingo, Kamwenge and Kayunga in which a number of deaths and casualties were
