Police in Kisoro District have arrested a 43-year old man for allegedly sabotaging the National Population and Housing Census (NPHC) exercise.

The suspect is identified as Bahizi Alex, a resident of Kabuga village Muganza parish, Chahi Sub County Kisoro district. He has been arrested at Kisoro central police station

Deputy RDC Kisoro Robert Tukamuhebwa revealed that Bahizi refused to be enumerated claiming that the exercise was against his religious beliefs.

Tukamuhebwa called on religious leaders and other believers not to interfere with government programs like the ongoing census exercise but rather encourage their followers to be enumerated.

This comes just a day after six people were arrested for dodging census in Pallisa and Mityana Districts.

Meanwhile, Kisoro district communications officer, Merida Mukeshimana says so far a total of 24,350 housholds across the district have been enumerated over the first three days.
