Government has pushed elections for leaders in new districts to next financial year, citing lack of funds.

The government through a brief statement to Parliament by Mr David Bahati, the minister of State for Planning said that the activity was not budgeted for.

This has left MP’s including Arua Municipality’s Kassiano Wadri, Lira Woman MP Joy AtimOngom and Kasese Woman MP Winnie Kiiza cursing the government for misleading Parliament, to legislate in vain.

According to the arrangement for the creation of new districts adopted in 2015, six districts became operation on July 1, 2018 but no elections have taken place.

They include; Nabilatuk from Nakapiripiriti, Bugweri from Iganga, Kasanda from Mubende, Kwania from Apac, Kapelebyong from Amuria and Kikuube from Hoima.

a set of another six districts are expected to commence on July 1, 2019 and they include; Obongi from Moyo, Kazo from Kiruhura, Rwampara from Mbarara, Kitagwenda from Kamwenge, Madi-Okollo from Arua and Karenga from Kaabong.
