President Museveni has warned African Commanders of Land Forces against resorting to coups to change leadership.

Speaking during the Africa Land Forces Summit for army commanders at Speke Resort Munyonyo, President Museveni said that commanders are not supposed to take part any political fights.
Referring to Mali and Uganda in 1979, President Museveni noted that many army commanders cannot run national affairs and end up running down their economies.

Junior military officers in the Malian army overthrew the democratic government and President Amadou Toumani Toure, instituting a military junta regime.

West Africa’s regional bloc ECOWAS yesterday threatened to re-impose sanctions on Mali, saying the junta’s actions were clearly designed to disrupt the political transition
