Opposition presidential candidates have re-echoed calls for the electorate to take the responsibility of securing their vote.
The call has been resounded by Forum for Democratic Change’s Patrick Amuriat while addressing a joint news conference in Kampala.
This is contrary to the Electoral Commission directive against the same, sounded earlier by the chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama.
Amuriat on the other hand is urging voters to stay within the polling stations after casting their ballots to protect their vote.
He says at this moment, there is no need to emphasize brutality suffered by the candidates at the hands of security personnel during the past 60 days, but the focus should be on polling day itself which is just one day away.
Amuriat has also decried militarization of the campaign process by the NRM which he says is meant to create fear and intimidation of voters.
Meanwhile, the Alliance for National Transformation’s Maj.Gen Mugisha Muntu has challenged the Electoral Commission to rescind its directive prohibiting use of cameras within polling stations saying there is need for total transparency during the voting process.
The candidates are addressing a joint news conference after holding a closed door meeting that was also attended by former FDC president Retired Col Dr Kiiza Besigye and NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi.
