Over 500 people have been awarded medals of Honor for their contribution in the NRM liberation struggle.

This was at the Tarehe Sita celebrations held in Kasese in remembrance of the first armed attack, in which President Yoweri Museveni launched the guerrilla war on February 6, 1981.

The celebrations have been held under the theme “Regional cooperation in security for national and regional development”.

Speaking at the same celebrations, the Chief of Defense forces General Aronda Nyakairima called for the fast tracking of establishing a regional armed force to ensure peace in the region.

General Nyakairima said security is a critical aspect for development of not only nations but regions and the continent at large.
