The Police in Lira district have arrested a female pastor for allegedly stealing money and other valuable household items from her flock.

In one instance, the suspect allegedly collected all household items belonging to 40-year-old Betty Opito in exchange for blessings and comfort after she lost her husband.

Opito told police that the pastor allegedly collected the victim’s motorcycle, a generator, four suitcases full of clothes, two family size beds, mattresses and television screens among others items which she claimed were to be burnt to cast out demons.

But few days later, Opito was tipped by friends that the pastor had not burnt the items as she claimed but was instead looking for buyers.

The widow reported the matter to police upon which the pastor was arrested on Monday, charged with theft and claiming property by false presence.

The officer in-charge of Starch Factory Police Post, Joshua Sendaula, confirmed the arrest saying the suspect took advantage of the sick widow to defraud her of her property.
