The police have been heavily deployed at St Balikudembe market as the vendors threatened to strike over leadership wrangles.

The traders are also demanding to know the whereabouts of the marker land title.

The vendors say they want elections held soon and are accusing market chairman Godfrey Kayongo of lack of transparency.

The vendors have threatened not to pay market dues again until they have chosen leaders. At least 4 people have been arrested for trying to cause commotion.

Calm has returned to the market, though the presence of the police remains heavy at the market.
