Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) executive director, Dorothy Kisaka has welcomed President Museveni’s directive to release the Authority’s quarterly contribution of Shs6b billion to fix potholes but says, it is not enough.
Speaking to KFM on Thursday morning, Kisaka confirmed meeting the president last evening at State House to discuss the poor state of roads in the city.
She says the president directed the finance ministry to release the Shs6 billion for every quarter on top of the current Shs26 billion annual budget allocation the authority receives for road development and maintenance.
“Yes it’s a drop in the ocean according to the need but when you are in red in the bank and something drops that takes you to black, you rejoice. We are glad, it’s not enough but we shall use it to co-correct the areas that need correction,” Ms. Kisaka told KFM.
The meeting follows criticism by Ugandans who have taken to Twitter to express anger over the potholes in the city under the hashtag #KampalaPotholeExhibition where users share photos of roads with potholes.
KCCA recently revealed that it would require Shs100 billion to fix the problems on Kampala roads.
