Teachers under their umbrella body Uganda National teachers union are this afternoon scheduled to sign a collective bargaining agreement with public service and finance ministry officials, an agreement that will determine if there planned strike will be called off or not.

According to the unions secretary general Filbert Baguma this agreement was agreed on yesterday after a long day discussion about teacher’s salary enhancement.

From yesterday’s meeting it was agreed that effective the coming financial year salaries for posting primary teachers be enhanced by 20% and in the 2019/2020 budget salaries for all teachers irrespective their categories shall be increased.

Baguma says the strike which was to kick off on 23rd June will be called off only if the agreement is signed today at 3pm at the public service offices.
