A soldier from Kaweweta Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Recruitment Training School, Sergeant Alex Jachan, has been charged and remanded to Makindye Military Police Barracks for assaulting a female student, causing her actual bodily harm.

The 40-year-old Jachan appeared before a seven-member Court chaired by Brigadier General Freeman Robert Mugabe and pleaded guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The prosecution alleges that in August 2022, at the Kaweweta Training Institute, Sergeant Jachan unlawfully assaulted Evalyne Apio, causing her actual bodily harm.

In a separate case, the General Court Martial also convicted a metron at Kaweweta Training Institute, Private Susan Adeke, for assaulting another student.

It is alleged that in August 2022, at the Kaweweta Training School, Adeke assaulted Brenda Kisakye, causing her actual bodily harm.

Both Jachan and Adeke pleaded guilty and were ordered to return to Court on February 5, 2024, for mitigation and sentencing.
