By Benjamin Jumbe.

Uganda communications commission has defended its directive on halting sale of sim-cards and airtime.

The commission recently instructed all telecommunication companies to stop the practice of selling their sim-cards and airtime on the streets.

Now speaking at a communications consumer parliament in Fortportal, the UCC corporate affairs director Fred Ottunu said while it may be inconveniencing it was necessary as a measure to plug existing gaps exploited by criminals.

He further appeals to members of the public to jealously protect their national ID details to avoid being used by suspected criminals
