The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is warning against nationalist approaches to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Guterres says all countries have suffered during the pandemic, but nationalist approaches are a road to ruin when it comes to vaccines, sustainability & climate action.

He says the next six months will show whether global solidarity extends beyond words to meaningful action.

The UN chief notes that since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a lot of talk about global solidarity, but unfortunately, words by themselves will not end the pandemic – or curb the impact of the crisis.

He emphasizes that now is the moment to show what solidarity means in practice.
